UBER PRESENTS...

Uber, The Melting Pot, Josh Wink, Mark Knight
Uber Presents, The Melting Pot Grand Re-opening, Sunday 28th August!

Uber’s had a great deal of excitement within its tenure. The stunning showcases of Spring may be the most obvious point of reference, two blistering Radio One ordained showcases centred around the station’s Carlisle based One Big Weekend, but pretty much everything they have yearned for has happened. Nigh on every DJ they’ve wanted to book has come about, the Media has consistently voiced its approval for the club and they’ve brought thousands to party in Carlisle. But there remains one area of unfinished business.

November 2010 was Uber’s Fourth Birthday party, but it was also supposed to be the start of the club’s brand new residency at Carlisle nightclub the Melting Point. Although the night in question was an unmitigated success (Greg Wilson playing a rapturous edit based set to a bouncing crowd), fate had other ideas for the dawn of this new chapter in Uber’s history.

Fire damage meant the club was shut down unexpectedly, but by no means destroyed despite the immense problems facing the owners in revitalising it. Now, much earlier than expected, the club is prepared to open once more with the story adding a very literal edge to the metaphorical Phoenix from the Flames fable. August Bank Holiday 2011 Uber and the Melting Pot re-engage with their goal of revitalising Carlisle’s nightlife.

The talent on offer reflects that pledge, much like a fine red wine it reeks of sophistication, multi-faceted flavours and a vintage focus on dance music’s varied tapestry of genres. Josh Wink headlines, the Philadelphia tech-house tycoon one of the music’s legends with a global touring calendar, glut of production work and sterling record label Ovum all building on the success of his huge breakthrough hit ‘Higher State of Consciousness’.

Joining him will be Toolroom Records boss Mark Knight and edit superstar The Revenge. Knight remains the undisputed king of British main room house, a Ministry of Sound global resident and a DJ who can boast over three decades working at the pinnacle of the scene. The Revenge transformed the nu-disco genre, with his edits of everyone from Q-Tip to Hot Chocolate at the front of every DJ’s box in recent times. Most notably was his ‘Regulate’ sampling ‘Funk on a whole Nu Level’, the track of choice when DJs doffed their cap in memory to the late Nate Dogg.

As ever there is a bulging ensemble of local artists representing for Uber, as well as a series of as of yet unannounced special guests which will only increase the strength of this eye-popping line-up. As a trailblazer to Uber’s future in the venue it serves as an epic statement of intent, and proof that the only fire burning now is a desire to enrich Carlisle’s musical legacy.
