MICKY SLIM TALKS GLOBAL GATHERING '11...

Micky Slim, Global Gathering 2011
Global Gathering hit the UK this weekend for it's 11th year of EDM madness.
Global Gathering is an annual dance music festival by Angel Music Group, the company behind Godskitchen, and is a key player in the international festival market. With 10 music festivals across the globe in countries such as Ukraine, Poland, Turkey, Russia, Belarus, Australia and the UK every single event has surpassed all expectations with top class electronic music artists and market leading production.

The festival has been running since 2001 and the concept came about following an unprecedented interest in the opening of Angel Music Group’s new club Code (now renamed Air) the home of Godskitchen, the organisers recognised that there was a real gap in the market and potential to expand out of the club and into the fields, and what an excellent decision that turned out to be….

This year, an array of Dirty Smart artists took to the stage including Funkagenda, Michael Woods, & Micky Slim.

After Slim opened the main stage on Friday, Clara from Kiss FM caught up with the Birmingham bad boy for a quick Q&A.

Check the link below-

FYI Clara, its Micky Slim NOT Micky Finn...

STEREOHEROES JOIN DIRTY SMART...

StereoHeroes join team Dirty Smart
This is incred.
StereoHeroes have been spotted rockin' Dirty Smart - Yo Punk @ Social Club, Paris.

Why is this soo incred?..
I discovered their 'Lost Generation EP' back in May, and have been a HUGE fan ever since.
That day, which i believe was a Friday, became very expensive, as their beatport back catalogue is fairly extensive!
Check it out HERE & fill the clubs with these sounds!

For those peeps who live in a hole, who are StereoHeroes?

Short description:
French dancefloor ass kickers...

Long description:
StereoHeroes are an electronic duo formed in early 2008, consisting of Fabrice Delcambre and Sébastien Plé (Fab & Seb).
The two heroes discovered the wonders of electro parties in the mid 90s, and quickly began learning to mix and compose.

Eventually meeting in 2004, Fab & Seb forged a close relationship, with mutual desire to combat the growing minimal music trend, bring back smiles, and raise hands on dancefloors.

Their first tracks were acclaimed by blogs around the world, and within a few months they were asked to play a world tour across Australia, Japan, China, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Poland, & Belgium.

A year later they were set up for their first U.S. tour, playing to crowds of +50,000...

Real heroes are not masked, not wearing fluorescent tights, but donning dope threads (Dirty Smart obvs), fully energized, smashing the sh*t out dancefloors rammed with smilie party people.

Their unique sound of, melting deadly basslines, jumping rhythms and delirious samples, can fly from a sub-underground style of classic techno and hip-hop house, to drum'n'bass & dub...

To date they have produced more than 20 original tracks (named after Marvel Comics characters), topped charts, and have been added to the playlists of famous djs all over the world. On top of that, Stereoheroes have made a crazy load of banging remixes for an array of different artists.

As you can see from the screen shot above, it appears myself and Inesha share the same philosophy on life…

DUBSTEP IN IBIZA...

Dubstep in Ibiza
I've always been a massive fan of dubstep. Artists like Skrillex, Rico Tubbs, Ajapai, & Terravita make regular visits to my ear drums.

I found the below article on Resident Adviser and though i'd share...

"
The soundtrack to clubland Ibiza has always been dominated by the 4/4 beats of house or techno (with a sizable trance element as well). Anything else, really, is an exception—even despite the long-standing presence of rock, hard house and R&B parties on the island.

In many ways, 2011 has been marked by the real threat of new sounds breaking the 4/4 stranglehold. Pop acts are in abundance at 'I Want My MTV', 'Clubland' and 'Ibiza Rocks' of course. And there's also the increasing presence of acts that can broadly categorised as dubstep.

The genre has taken its time getting to Ibiza. Before the short-lived Ibiza Rocks offshoot 'Reclaim the Dancefloor' brought names like Benga and Caspa to Ibiza in 2009 and 2010, it was hardly a concern. The fact that night no longer exists, though, shows just how much of a challenge the genre faces.

'Come Together', starting in 2010, has been at the forefront of bringing a more expansive range of sounds to Ibiza. Indeed, it's made alternative sounds the core of its programming. The Friday night at Space has so far welcomed Artwork, Rusko and Katy B and has more to come with live shows by drum & bass duo Chase & Status and Magnetic Man, as well as individual performances from Benga and Skream. What strikes you most when you go to these events, however, is that the crowd is atypical for Ibiza. It's younger, almost exclusively British and, well, I guess more mainstream. It's an obvious point really—as the majority of these acts have a strong presence across UK national radio and charts—but it results in the atmosphere feeling a lot less like a subculture and more like just normal youth culture.

Ibiza's appeal is the exact opposite, and that may be a big reason why the stuff has never taken off on the island. The type of dubstep that has made it thus far engenders an atmosphere that's way too straitlaced.

Another night venturing into similar territory is 'Tonight' (Tuesdays, Amnesia) who have had a couple of really busy nights involving Chase & Status, an act that is interestingly proving to be a much bigger attraction than Eric Prydz. The programming is—at times—exactly the same as 'Come Together', with Skream, Benga, Diplo and Katy B featuring prominently in the curation of Annie Mac and London promoters Lock N Load.

Elsewhere, there is the odd appearance here and there, such as by Ramadanman at 'We Love' (7th August), an artist at a very different end of the spectrum compared to some of those previously mentioned.

Artists like that—Burial, Shackleton, Scuba, Joy Orbison or Martyn—simply aren't even on the radar in Ibiza. It'll be interesting to see if the presence of the commercial end of the dubstep market allows a more underground dubstep scene to eventually develop.

Whether that is something desired—or likely to work—is another matter entirely...

RIOT BREAKS OUT AT KASKADE'S STREET PARTY...

Kaskade, street riot
What started as a normal movie premiere for "Electric Daisy Carnival Experience" at Grauman's Chinese Theatre ended with riot police on Hollywood Boulevard.

According to reports, the crowd moved down the street to see Kaskade play at an unofficial block party outside the Mann’s Chinese Theatre. The DJ had written on Twitter: “Today@6pm in Hollywood @Mann’s Chinese Theatre. ME+BIG SPEAKERS+MUSIC=BLOCK PARTY!!! RT!”

Apparently things got out of hand, with some members of the crowd throwing rocks and bottles and lighting fires. The LAPD shut down Hollywood Boulevard, firing at the rave-rioters with bean bags. Kaskade’s Facebook page is being flooded with commentary from fans who showed up. According to some outlets, arrests are now being made.

Paris Hilton, who was on her way to attend the premiere, tweeted, “Omg! What’s going on on Hollywood Blvd?” Insomniac Inc. Chief Executive Pasquale Rotella, who founded the Electric Daisy Carnival, expressed anger at the unauthorized, aborted musical act, tweeting that he could not attend his own premiere because of the street closures. “What genius organized the street party!” tweeted Rotella. “I’m pretty bummed.”

Kaskade’s most recent Tweets read:
“EVERYONE CHILL NOW!!! The block party has officially been shut down! BUT THIS IS TOO CRAZY AND WE NEED TO BE SAFE!” This was followed by another tweet: “I AM REALLY CONCERNED FOR EVERYONES SAFETY AT THIS POINT! PLEASE RELAX” and then “EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HOME NOW!”

What makes me chuckle, is a video i found of the ravers caught up in the madness, exercising a bit of extreme planking!

MOWGLI RELEASES 'I GOTTA FEELING' VIDEO...

Mowgli, I Gotta Feeling, video
Mowgli has been getting on a deep-house tip with his recently release record I Gotta Feeling (which came out on More Music on 18th July).

But it’s not just straight up house he beholds; classic R&B snippets and soulful loops heighten those balmy, euphoric summer sensations. In keeping with the theme of creative charm, two internationally exhibiting artists Gemma Land and Xu Ming Lo Tong have produced the official 'I Gotta Feeling' video which is available for exclusive viewing ahead of its official release in a few weeks time. Prepare your senses for audio-visual indulgence.

DEADMAU5, "I DO SPORT THE DIRTYSMART! LOVE THE T'S"...

deadmau5 contacts Dirty Smart
Before I tell you how excited I was by the twitter convo featured in the picture above, you need a bit of background knol...

A 'DDoS attack' is an attempt to make a resource unavailable to its intended users. One common method of attack, involves saturating a target with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to the traffic.

deadmau5 is renowned for unintentional DDoS attacks. He has such a loyal hoarde of followers, as soon as he tweets a URL, the mentioned website crashes due to traffic.

Today i spotted a deadmau5 tweet:

‘ http://www.djmag.com/top100 LOL WHAT!!!???? voting fail = step one, open facebook, step 2, allow your personal FB... ’

I went to check out http://www.djmag.com/top100 and sure enough, the site had crashed!

I looked across the table and saw Dirty Smart's webmaster -Shaolin- arseing around, so cheekily tweeted...

' @deadmau5 fancy crashing our website? love www.dirtysmart.com x '

I wasn't expecting a reply... but one came a couple of minutes later!

' @dirtysmart nah, it does more harm than good... but! i do sport the dirtysmart! love the t's (nick gave me a few more in ibiza, love em) '

Is there an emotion that combines being speechless, shocked & elated?..
x

Emerging electronic visionary and one of Americas biggest breakthrough artistes is Skrillex, following his meteoric rise to DJ superstardom we are pleased to announce details of the UK leg of his first ever world Tour which hits our shores in November.

Sonny Moore aka Skrillex is at the forefront of a new generation of artistes that refuse to be restricted by genre. His first independent 9 song EP release ‘Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites’ was released on Big Beat Records in conjunction with fellow electronic revolutionary deadmau5’ Mau5trap label, and dominated the charts last year on beatport, with the title track claiming the sites No.1 slot, the first time a dubstep track has ever done so, 8 of the songs also broke into the Top 10 and multiple tracks claimed the No.1 slots on several of the sites subgenre charts. Following its huge success, Skrillex is now back in the studio putting together his next album which is due for release towards the end of the year.

Having garnered a huge fanbase around the world, Skrillex will be performing at some of this year’s biggest festivals including Creamfields UK on August Bank Holiday Weekend and Global Gathering on Saturday 30th July. The UK tour kicks off on 16th November and includes London, Manchester, Glasgow, Sheffield, Bristol and Nottingham.
