ROBB G - DRINK. DANCE. F*CK. REPEAT...
Born in 2009 out of a lack of a permanent venue in Guelph to host underground dance parties, Tabu's 'Drink Dance F*ck Repeat' Thursday's have quickly become not only the most talked about weekly party in Guelph but one of the most buzzworthy parties in Canada.
On the 13th October, Robb G graced Tabu with his presence.
The intro to the photo report from the night simply read:
"ROBB G going ape sh*t inside TABU. The energy from this man was incredible..."
I had to see that for myself! Check it out *HERE*

MUSTARD PIMP CALL OUT DUCK SAUCE...
"Big Bad Wolf is pretty simple, and it can mean anything, really, so we wanted the video to have its own narrative," says A-Trak, one-half of the dance duo Duck Sauce, along with Armand Van Helden. "Remember when dance music videos used to actually be creative? Like when you think back to Aphex Twin, Fatboy Slim and Daft Punk... I don't know why the genre's videos became so generic in recent years."
Mustard Pimp's reaction to the video was simple...
"The Big Bad Rip Off"
Mustard Pimp's claims certainly aren't unfounded.
The music video for 'ZHM' was released 3 months ago & makes 'Big Bad Wolf' look completely imitative.
Draw your own conclusions, but personally im not surprised Duck Sauce are ruffling feathers (pun intended)...

DEADMAU5 - "WHATUP DETROIT!"...
Doing what I do, it is important I know exactly what is going on in clubland all the time. I'm not bragging, it's kind of a sad obsession.
With artists representing Dirty Smart all over the world, sometimes it is hard to keep track of everyone's movements.
Without Dirty Smart fans & friends sending me tip off's & news stories, it would not be possible.
The guys from MetroTimes in Detroit have been in touch, and sent us a review of deadmau5’s Meowingtons Hax Tour at The Fillmore, Detroit.
Props to Rockstar Pro Photography for the picture & props to deadmau5 for repping DS....
...
..
.
'The floor is shaking, right? I'm not that drunk, am I?" a girl asks from the next stall over.
We are on the third floor of the Fillmore Detroit on Friday, Oct. 21st, 2011 and the floor is, indeed, swaying perceptibly beneath us with the stomping of the crowd as well as the bass from the stage. Down below, one can almost see the sound waves flowing forth, pulsating the bodies in the crowd and causing teeth to vibrate against each other. It is the kind of bass that resonates through organ and bone, a veritable defibrillator.
I assure the girl that we are at a deadmau5 concert and not experiencing an earthquake.
Joel Zimmerman, the creator and mastermind behind deadmau5, had appeared onstage moments earlier behind a translucent curtain. Backlit by a purple glow, his trademark mouse-head helmet and shining white eyes float eerily in rhythm with electronic chords atop a shimmering, fragmented Rubik's cube. The volume intensified, the notes held longer, and the crowd screamed its devotion. It felt as if we had been suspended in time when the beat finally dropped. Everyone's bodies broke against each other like water poured from high above, finally crashing into something solid. The crowd moved and undulated; hands waved through the air in deadmau5's direction. It was the kind of dance that is appropriated only for this kind of music, a series of half-collapses, stomps, and hand gestures that are meant to indicate approval and pay tribute to the artist on stage.
"It's all about the light show," someone screams into my ear. "That's what it is. You'll die. You're going to die."
Strobe light seizure warnings aside, this person was right. The music is hypnotizing and registers deep, but we are not simply watching a DJ on stage. We are in the midst of what might be a religious experience, lights and visions flashing before our eyes as our bodies move together. Shafts of purple and yellow light pierce the dust and haze like arms reaching for the back of the theatre.
Ten years ago, a production of this technical sophistication, along with a sold-out house, would not have been typical of electronic music. Usually these things are relegated to pop music acts, with their far-reaching appeal and endless budget. Electronic music, meanwhile, spent years growing in basements, clubs and small venues, and has finally begun to proliferate, a point proven by the radio hits laid unassumingly over house beats. deadmau5 may arguably be the golden boy of his genre, with international success and his current tour, Meowingtons Hax, selling out shows virtually everywhere he goes (he recently did six consecutive nights at the Roseland Ballroom in New York).
Outside, people are breathless and wide-eyed. They have just caught a glimpse of Sofi leaving the tour bus. She walks briskly through a side door, and only those on the periphery take notice; she is one understatedly stylish woman amongst many. But a while later, she struts onto the stage in a silver and black leotard, commanding the audience's affection and attention during "Sofi Needs a Ladder" and "One Trick Pony". deadmau5 even descends the cube and busts a few moves alongside her.
Cries of ecstasy erupt when the crowd recognizes the first few notes of "Ghosts 'n' Stuff." There is an enormous push toward the stage, and even though it is close to 1 a.m., people explode with more energy than they had all night.
After the final note dies at the end of the night and the lights go up, we are all blinking away remnants of flashing strobes from behind our eyelids. I still feel the pulse of the music inside my ears as I walk toward my car, and on the way home, it's as if the deadmau5 eyes glow knowingly in the form of each pair of passing headlights...

GLOWFEST CANCELLED, DEADMAU5 STILL PLAYS...
Just hours before 'curtains up', the GLOWfest Twitter page announced that the show (19.10.11) headlining deadmau5 had been cancelled due to "inclement weather."
Here is a report by IDS News of the insanity that followed this tweet....
...
..
.
deadmau5 threw his cigarette on the floor of the Bluebird Nightclub’s back room and stomped on it.
He took another swig of Red Bull...
"Why the fuck would you have an outside show in October?" deadmau5 asked rhetorically.
GLOWfest had been cancelled. About 5,400 ticket holders were furious, Twitter was blowing up and more than 1,500 people were lined up around Walnut and Sixth streets in the freezing rain.
GLOWfest was a contracted "rain or shine" event. However, with nearly a million dollars of stage equipment at risk, the plug was pulled, leaving a mere two hours to come up with a plan B...
GLOWfest was out, and a new event was in formation...
"We had these four artists in this small town, and we had to come up with something quick," Kate Swanson (GLOWfest Publicist and IU junior) said. "We considered a lot, but it had to be fast. The Bluebird was open, so that’s what we did."
Bluebird worker Molly Carroll said she got the text at about 8 p.m. saying the club needed everyone to come in immediately. Doors were set to open at 9 p.m., and they planned to instantly reach maximum capacity.
"People were stressed," Carroll said. "Everything was taken out of the freezers, and we cut as much fruit as we could, and then the doors opened."
A security guard was placed at Carroll's side while people crowded the Bluebird tubs for beer. But when opener Le Castle Vania took stage, there were bigger issues for security to handle.
"People were hanging from the rafters, crowd surfing and those who had a few too many were having to be carried out," Carroll said.
It was hard to tell the difference between rain-soaked, sweat-soaked and spilled-drink-alcohol-soaked as the crowd was so closely tangled. Fans wetness was a mix of all three, brought together by the sounds of neo-trance dubstep. Le Castle Vania's remix of La Roux's "In for the Kill" was met with screams of approval, taking the atmosphere to an even higher level.
"Le Castle Vania just hit the decks," deadmau5 tweeted soon after the opener took stage; "Insanity ensues."
Seniors Katherine Bihrle and Samantha Skjodt were among 10 people dancing on a bench to the side of the stage when it flipped, throwing them to the floor in a twisted heap of bodies, neon, spandex and glow sticks.
Bihrle said no one was hurt, and everyone simply got back up and started dancing again.
"No one was still," Bihrle said. "It was one of the smallest venues he's been at for, like, seven years, but that just made everything so personal."
Feed Me took the stage, creating a different tone as they welcomed the crowd in an English accent to a taste of house and what some call "intelligent dance" music. Toward the end of Feed Me's performance, Joel Zimmerman walked on to continue revealling his identity to the crowd by placing on his mau5head.
People went crazy.
deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon", among other fan favorites, escalated the commotion.
"The show was so close to the audience," Skjodt said. "He had to have felt the energy of the crowd, and I know it was something he hasn't felt in awhile."
After the show, deadmau5 tweeted to Bloomington "oh geez... not going to lie, but i need more shows like that in my life... worst sound ever, worse setup ever, BEST CROWD OF ALL TIME. how fucking amazing was that. TOTALLY made up for BLOWfest!!! Im motivated to come back, many times"
GLOWfest / BLOWfest has yet to officially announce if there will be compensation for ticket holders that were unable to enter the Bluebird.

Legendary Bournemouth-based trio Aquasky return with their 8th studio album 'Raise The Devil' featuring 16 bass-heavy party tracks which include guest vocals and collaborations from Lee Mortimer, Engine Earz Experiment, Daddy Freddy, Ragga Twins, Tenor Fly, Mr. Thing, PYRAMID, Acafool, Deja, Roisin Brophy, Didjelirium and Bex Riley. This album sees the trio take it back to basics and return to what people expect when they hear the name Aquasky!
Having been solid friends since the heady days of rave and acid house, the guys first hit the studio together during the jungle era and in 1995 Aquasky was born, signing immediately to Moving Shadow before going onto release on some of the biggest and best labels including Polydor, Botchit & Scarper, Reinforced, Good Looking Records, Hospital, Southern Fried and Mr. Bongo. In 2001 they took the decision to launch their own imprint Passenger as a place where they had free reign to unleash their full creativity and develop both their sound and the sounds of other acts.
'Raise The Devil' sees the guys return to what they know best... delivering bonafide dancefloor bangers. There are elements of Breakbeat, Rave, D&B, Dubstep, Nu-Jungle, Warehouse, Drumstep and Reggae. The focus and album title refers to getting people to find their inner devil trapped within themselves and releasing it. Harnessing that sourced energy productively and creatively whether that is in the club, the studio, at home or on the streets, demanding for change! This isn’t a political record, it isn’t even a record with a purpose driven end goal but it is an album that deals with the positive and unleashes heaps of good vibes to the listener.
This is an album for those who loved Aquasky’s previous albums ‘Beat The System’ and ‘Stayfresh’.
Alongside the album release, expect an extensive worldwide tour visiting friends old and new across the world.
Get ready for the onslaught!

SVEN VATH, THE SOUND OF THE TWELFTH SEASON...
Vath has very recently finished up a triumphant season in Ibiza with his Cocoon Heroes residency at Amnesia, and now comes the customary double-disc snapshot of all those hazy nights.
The first CD ‘Night’ finds the Cocoon boss in a house-y mood, ticking off summer anthems from the likes of Mark E, Todd Terje, Chateau Flight and fellow Future recruits Benoit & Sergio. The Cocoon-commissioned Adonis from Boys Noize also makes the cut.
CD Two, ‘Day’, also looks decidedly laidback for a peaktime specialist like Vath, with smooth operators Move D, Steffi and Ame in the mix. All that sunshine is really soaking in, it seems. Sven Vath in the mix – The Sound of the Twelfth Season will be released through Cocoon Recordings on 18 November. Will he techno it up at FMF, or keep it cruisy?
CD1: Night

LAIDBACK LUKE LEADS THE PACK FOR CREAM'S BOXING DAY CELEBRATIONS...
Following the sell-out success of their 19th Birthday at Nation this month, dance fans don’t have long to wait for the next instalment as Cream reveals it’s line-up for Boxing night.
Leading the festive cheer in the Main room will be man of the moment Laidback Luke. Fresh from his spell binding residency for Cream in Ibiza this summer, Luke’s ascent to DJ superstardom continues as he dominates the charts and dancefloors around the globe.
At the helm in the Courtyard is Cream favourite Eddie Halliwell who presents his ED-IT live show to the masses. Eddie’s skill lies in his unique musical ability to read the crowd, and if you witnessed his mind blowing set at Creamfields this year you know what we mean.
Joining Eddie in the courtyard is Toolroom Records star Funkagenda, as famous for his production skills as he is for his DJ’ing with his trademark melodic big room house sound. Never one to miss a mash up is Michael Woods who joins the line up in the Courtyard, a DJ/Producer whose musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech house tracks has been noted by some of the most influential figures in dance music.
One of the most talked about artists from Creamfields this year was Alesso and we welcome him on Boxing night for his Cream debut. At only 19 years old and with massive original productions including ‘Nillionaire’ already under his belt, Sebastian Ingrosso’s protégée is trailblazing the way. Having scored an essential new tune on BBC Radio 1 and secured a second play with his killer remix of Swedish House Mafia’s 'Save the World', Alesso is one to watch.
Joining him in the Main Room are DJ/production duo Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano. Famous for their soulful vocal and fast pumping house, their skill lies in the ability to build a track, drop it, pull in the next, sample soul-pleasing vocals, then drop another seamlessly. Completing the line up in the Main Room is leader of the new school Kim Fai. Often seen performing back to back with the ‘new house mafia’ AN21 and Max Vangeli or supporting deadmau5 on his US & UK tours, his other talent lies in his remixing ability, having enjoyed major success with a string of high profile commissions from the likes of Chase & Status, Jason Derulo, Lady Gaga and The Prodigy.
Another duo joining in the fun comes from Third Party who having caught the ear of Steve Angello with their mega track ‘Release’ and who subsequently signed it to his Size Records label. 2011 has undoubtedly been their break out year which has seen them performing around the world which included supporting the Swedish House Mafia at the Masquerade Motel in Miami and completing the ‘One Night Only’ UK tour amongst others.
And finally no Cream boxing night would be complete without its residents, as we welcome back Gareth Wyn, Anthony Probyn, Andy Mac, Jemmy, Rob Harnetty and Lee Ellis.
Tickets on sale now £28+BF (Early Bird). www.ticketline.co.uk / Tel: 0844 888 4401

Hospital Records is widely regarded as one of the best drum and bass labels in the world, releasing quality music for over 15 years now. Their Hospitality events have become known for some of the most diverse and excitin line ups of talent from various scenes, so it is no surprise that they have brought together such a fantastic group of artists for what will be their last party at Store Street. The label is known for its ground breaking liquid funk releases, putting out wildly innovative drum and bass that takes influences from house, soul, funk and jazz, so it’s fitting that one of the pioneers of the sound, High Contrast, will be headlining, joined by the ever popular Brazilian superstar DJ Marky. Label co-founder Tony Colman’s highly revered London Elektricity will be dropping a typically diverse and entertaining set, as will some of the younger stars of drum and bass from around Europe such as Netsky, Alix Perez and a live show from Austrian duo Camo & Krooked. Swamp81 boss Loefah is joined by fellow legend Pinch, with hotly tipped trio Dark Sky also joined by one of Rinse FM’s most exciting and innovative DJs Alexander Nut.

THE MAGICIAN ATTACKED...
In a disturbing start to the week, Kitsuné prodigy 'The Magician' has been attacked on stage during a show in Bern, Switzerland last night.
The Belgian DJ's Facebook page reported early this morning that an audience member threw a "chemical liquid" onto his face during the performance. The Magician, real name Stephen Fasano, was admitted to the emergency room but has assured fans that he is "better now". Fasano’s Facebook page has also appealed for information, photos or video from audience members that could help catch the as-yet unknown assailant.
Club Bonsoir - "We are shaken to the core that such an attack took place at our venue and we will take all necessary action to track the offender. We are deeply sorry for the unpleasing experience The Magician and some near standing guests had at Club Bonsoir last Saturday night.
This is the second grave incident in 2 weeks after three years of peace and harmony at Club Bonsoir. We will do all it takes to to prevent any further sabotage.
If you have seen the offender or if you have any relevant information that could help to track the offender, please get in touch via contact@bonsoir.ch or contact the local police.
All information will be handled strictly confidential"
One Facebook fan suggested “He was probably upset that the DJ didn’t want to play his favourite Skrillex track”. Chilling stuff.

UBER REVEAL 5TH BIRTHDAY LINE-UP...
Uber's 5th birthday party has a guestlist to die for, with the Friendly Fires, Riva Starr and Krysko coming for a slice of the cake in The Melting Pot on Saturday, November 19th.
One top performer is no longer enough as Uber gets older and wiser. Last time it was Josh Wink, Mark Knight and The Revenge on the same bill (http://www.dirtysmart.com/news_article.php?id=500); and now it's two DJs that have already rocked it for Uber in the past, joined for the very first time by an act nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and the Brit Awards.
The Friendly Fires come hot off the back of another brilliant year that saw them release their second album, Pala, and complete a massive tour that saw them tear up the likes of Glastonbury.
Their mix CD on Berlin's prestigious K7 Records put them firmly on the map as a DJing force, traversing a wide range of genres from Disco to Tech house.
Riva Starr continues to conquer the world with his signature brand of mashed up funky madness. No ye olde genre is safe from the Riva treatment - he has sampled anything from Latin to Balkan to Charleston - and his label Snatch Recordings has helped propel him to global stardom. Don't forget that earlier this year he did the live mix on Annie Mac's Mash Up before his legendary set at Uber's Radio Big Weekender after party.
Palooza take charge of the middle room, which will see Krysko make a welcome return to Carlisle, having pulled up quite a few trees since his last set here. The man behind Manchester's world famous Warehouse Project has been busy attracting some of the biggest names in the business to the north west, but he has taken time out to come up and deliver his trademark jackin' beats.
The bumper line up is completed by Adam Bradley (Homegrown Music), Ginny Koppenhol, We Take Polaroids, Ki Creighton, Lee Clark and Jamie G.
Uber promoter Matthew Tyson said: "It's great to bring someone as universally popular as The Friendly Fires to the club – it’s an act we’ve been chasing for ages and to get them for the 5th Birthday its huge for us. We expect to see a lot of new faces at Uber for this one."

MINISTRY OF SOUND SAVED...
It's a victory for clubbers worldwide. Ministry of Sound’s London superclub has been saved from closure!
In August, the London institution had the axe looming over its head as developers pushed plans to build a 41-story apartment block directly across the road from the venue – noise complaints from which likely would have ended the club’s reign.
Yesterday morning, the proposal was rejected.
It seems we have the likes of Armin van Buuren, Laidback Luke and Judge Jules to thank for the MOS club’s rescue. The DJs were some of 25,000 people who signed a petition to deny the application and save what many consider to be one of the best clubs in the world.
Things were looking grim for the club’s future when head developer Christopher Allen coldly stated "Nightclubs come and go". But the council planning committee clearly felt differently, voting five to nil against the proposal. Allen described himself as "bitterly disappointed", stating "what will remain is a 1960s obsolete eyesore and the area, which desperately needs regeneration, will continue to stagnate".
Obsolete? Stagnate? He must not attended any of the recent, very significant and enlivened, Funkagenda, Michael Woods or deadmau5 sets hosted by the nightlife icon...
