A 19-year-old man who attended The Electric Daisy Carnival rave last weekend died later of a possible drug overdose, Texas media reported Monday, putting new pressure on the event's Los Angeles-based producer just days before its next rave opens in Las Vegas.
"Our condolences and deepest sympathy go out to the family and friends of the man who passed away," Pasquale Rotella, the CEO of Insomniac Inc., said in a statement issued over the weekend. "To go from a moment of happiness and enjoyment, to the loss of life, is very heartbreaking."
The death was the second linked to an Insomniac rave after 15-year-old Sasha Rodriguez died of an Ecstasy overdose after attending the Electric Daisy Carnival rave at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum last summer.
Earlier this year, the Los Angeles Times reported that a Coliseum manager had been hired to work for the rave company while the continuing to be employed by the Coliseum. The conflict-of-interest scandal caused the Coliseum commission's president to drop support of Insomniac remaining at the Coliseum, and Insomniac moved its annual late June rave from Los Angeles to Las Vegas.
About 23,600 people attended Saturday's rave in Dallas, according to Insomniac spokeswoman Jennifer Forkish. Los Angeles' Electric Daisy Carnival attracted 185,000 people over two days in 2010. Raves had become a major source of revenue for the aging Coliseum complex in recent years.
The Dallas Morning News reported that Andrew Graf was taken from the rave at Dallas' Fair Park for a suspected overdose. Fifty-one minutes after paramedics were called, he was pronounced dead at Baylor University Medical Center, the Morning News reported. The Dallas Observer said a total of 30 people were taken to hospitals from the rave.
Insomniac is set to host its next Electric Daisy Carnival beginning Friday night and ending Monday morning at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Rotella was welcomed by Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman during a news conference last week previewing Electric Daisy Carnival Week. He dismissed concerns that the rave comes with risks, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
When told about Rodriguez's death last year, according to the Sun, Goodman said, "An underage girl could die anyplace where she misbehaves. Really, I don't think, if you have 100,000 people, you don't hold the developer responsible for somebody's ill choices."
With the 1st of July round the corner, maybe I’m shooting my load too early. 2 Dark Destroyers were released today, and they are fucking incred...
The Squatters - Cardiac http://tinyurl.com/the-squatter-cardiac The first release from The Squatters new show stopping hallmark, What's Your Status? "Cardiac" is a chunk of heavyweight big room fun, which certainly ticks all the boxes when it comes to a strong party sound. Colossal bass, Epic breakdowns & an almost minimal yet jumping hook.
Aquasky - Take Me There (Cutline Remix) http://tinyurl.com/aquasky-takemethere I head this on an Aquasky mixtape a few months back. Hit rewind, listened to it again. Hit rewind, listened to it again. Hit rewind, listened to it again. Hit rewind, listened to it again… Note to all dubstep producers; this is how you make dubstep.
Note to all DJ’s; fill the clubs with these sounds and watch the walls melt.
On Sunday i was browsing twitter, reading the aftermath of EDC. At least 1 death and 30 people hospitalised for drug, alcohol and heat-related illnesses...
Skrillex hit the nail on the head for me... "I'm not one to force my ideals onto other people but I just wanted to say one thing: Please take care of yourselves and STOP getting completely fucked out of your mind on all of these drugs. Be responsible, have an amazing time but don't kill yourself in the process. I really do care about people and it makes me upset to see this sort of thing happening." (http://twitter.com/Skrillex)
E is supposed to be a fun drug, you just stay hydrated, don’t take too much and keep up the good vibes.
Here’s some rules:
drink water... The recommended amount of water to drink is bottle for every hour of dancing. Remember: sip, don’t gulp. Do not drink too much water.
avoid alcohol... It increases body temperature, makes the kidneys work much harder and gives a much worse come-down. Almost all Ecstasy-related deaths have involved alcohol.
take breaks... rising body temperature is the most dangerous physical aspect of Ecstasy use. Take regular breaks from dancing to cool down. If possible, go outside.
watch the dose... never take more than two pills, less if you are female and / or you have a small build. Never take two at the same time. The more MDMA you take, the more likely you are to suffer from overheating, neurotoxic effects and memory impairment.
don’t mix pills... Avoid mixing pills in the same session to reduce the chance of impurity interactions, or being flattened by two pills with radically different strengths
drink fruit juices... They are more efficient in replacing lost nutrients. Avoid fizzy drinks as they can cause nausea.
take Vitamin C... It’s an antioxidant and will prevent MDMA neurotoxicity.
avoid ‘diet’ drinks... In fact, any drink containing artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame). They contain phenylaline, a substance which increases the neurotoxicity of MDMA.
get pills tested using a testing kit... Many users lick pills before buying them in an attempt to identify the taste, but speed and MDMA have almost identical tastes. You can find out about testing kits here.
keep groups of friends together... This should be done especially among inexperienced users. Also, be prepared to talk people through bad times.
leave time between regular Ecstasy use... At least a one-month gap between Ecstasy use is advisable, although a two- or three-month break is much more preferable. This will help keep your tolerance levels down and products like Onnit Rollin can help your body recover.

Should Daft Punk be lawyer-ing up? Not only have Basement Jaxx switched things up and composed a film score, but now the boffins are going orchestral!
We’re kidding of course. But not about the Jaxx going for a grandiose, orchestral sound, which they have indeed achieved with their latest release, Basement Jaxx vs. Metropole Orkest.
As the title would imply the release sees Basement Jaxx meeting dutch orchestra Metropole Orkest for some stirring intepretations of the UK duo’s back catalogue. Their meeting was recorded live earlier this year at a concert in Holland and makes up the bulk of the new record.
You can hear a select few orchestral reworkings from the record below all of which sounds pretty damn sublime, if you ask us! The album drops on July 11th.
