Vegas authorities have started discussions to develop a three day electronic music conference tied in with the Electric Daisy Carnival, prompting the Las Vegas Sun to ask ‘Was Electric Daisy Carnival the beginning of a rave-based economy?’

“When it comes to making money, Las Vegas, admirably in my view, doesn’t do cloying moralism,” newspaper business columnist J Patrick Coolican declared, “And of course the event, which drew 230,000, pumped some money into the local economy,” he noted.

He also downplayed previous media attempts to demonise Electric Daisy over revellers’ drug use, using language dramatically different from Los Angeles reporters who helped drive the mega festival out of town last year after a 15 year old overdosed and died.

“As Clark County Commissioner Tom Collins put it: “The participants were the most polite young kids that I’ve ever been around,” said Mr Coolican.

“The kids were all rolling on ecstasy,” he continued, “which I understand causes acute politeness.” (Las Vegas Sun: http://bit.ly/qsp4xZ )

EDC organizers Insomniac meanwhile donated US$75,000 to three local charities including the Injured Police Officers Fund this week, in recognition of the city’s willingness to give them a new home.

"This year's festival was one of the best in Insomniac history, and we are incredibly appreciative of the Las Vegas community joining together to welcome us and assist with a memorable event," said Pasquale Rotella, Insomniac's CEO and founder in a statement.

"We are thrilled to be able to present $25,000 donations to key organizations that will only help improve the city where our fans and partners reside."

In more rave business news, Michael Matos, the founder of Cuba’s biggest event Rotilla accused authorities of ‘stealing’ this event this week, complaining that Cuba’s Ministry of Culture had taken over the running of his festival and ejected him and his team from its organization.

AFROJACK DOCUMENTS EDC...

Dutch hitmaker Afrojack was the breakout star of Stereosonic 2010. The DJ’s rapid rise to the big league is no more apparent than in North America, where his dominance of the charts is matched by the scale of the clubs he regularly plays.

One place where he’s right at home is the bright and flashy Las Vegas, and in late June he took to the mainstage at Electric Daisy Carnival to do his thing in front of a sea of rapt ravers. This week, Afrojack has posted a video from the surreal weekend, which captures the sheer size and insanity of the event. As he puts it in the video: “Almost every artist in the world is playing”. Anyone who claims dance music is 'old news' obviously hasn’t been to a festival in Vegas.

Afrojack is back in Europe this weekend for another monster dance festival, Belgium’s Tomorrowland. Almost every artist in the world is playing this one as well, and Afrojack got together recently with Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Nervo to make the 2011 official anthem. The result is a the kind of insanely overblown anthem that would make the Swedish House Mafia proud.

VEGAS GOES RAVING MAD...

Electric Daisy Carnival’s first ever rave in Vegas passed off successfully without serious incident last weekend, attracting over 200,000 revellers to the three night event.

The huge numbers and money involved provoked a deluge of positive press about both the Carnival and club culture in general, suggesting American rave culture has finally become too lucrative for authorities to try and destroy it again.

"It was awesome ... a hell of a feat, considering so much fear was created around it," retired club promoter Brandon Powers told the Vegas Review Journal,”I honestly think within a few years it could be up to half a million people."

While the Review Journal speculated that Vegas could soon be hosting 15,000 capacity weekly raves, travel portal Travelmole.com noted the already massive explosion in clubs offering day time clubbing ‘pool party’ events.

Reeling off a massive list including Nikki Beach Club, Wet Republic at MGM Grand, Encore Beach Club, the Rumor Las Vegas pool, the Bellagio, the site said Caesar’s Palace has just opened five new pools while the strip’s newest hotel the Marquee at The Cosmopolitan has a pool space which holds 5,000 revellers.)

"At the moment it's all about adult-pools in Vegas," hotel chief David Gonzalez, spokesman for MGM Resorts, told Travelmole.

“There's a whole music revolution in Vegas right now with DJs hosting pool parties most weekends."
