We are streetwear. We are fiends from the scene. We live for the weekend. We make moves, not excuses. We go to clubs with no gravity. We wear sunglasses at night. We do the Dada. We take her to the back by the hand. We say ’blau’, ’brrrat’ & ’brap’. We floss. We eat bananas with champagne.
We reject the mainstream. We are Dirty Smart...

2011 BEATPORT AWARDS...
The weekend just gone was a mammoth one in Miami. In fact, the celebrations are still going, following the big-as-they-come final day of Ultra Music Festival and Made Event’s 36-hour party The Lost Weekend. Amongst all the debauchery, the 4th Annual Beatport Music Awards took over the Gansevoort Hotel on Sunday 27 March for its first ‘live and direct’ ceremony.
Fresh from cavorting with Deadmau5 over at Ultra on Saturday night, club convert Tommy Lee was in charge of handing out the gongs. To no one’s great surprise, the mau5 claimed Artist Of The Year in the Community Choice Awards, with Swedish House Mafia’s arena-sized anthem One singled out as the people’s Track Of The Year.
The Top Sales Awards present an interesting picture of Beatport’s blockbuster sellers. Top Track Of The Year (based entirely on sales) was Tarantula from cross-continental production team Pleasurekraft.
2011 Creamfields drawcard Skrillex topped the dubstep sales category with Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites (more fuel to the fire, no doubt), while pop-dance starlet Wynter Gordon was named Beatport Breakthrough Artist. While we’re talking Creamfields, Beatport’s staff chose Slovenian powerhouse Umek as their Artist of the Year, and you can see why next month.
Last but not least, the new category of Lifetime Achievement Award went to Carl Craig. The Detroit don was much in-demand at this year’s Winter Music Conference (“no beach, only beats,” as he put it on Facebook), going back-to-back with Luciano at Cadenza’s bash, repping 20 Years Of Planet E at various parties, and generally being a dude. Beatport chose wisely on that one...
