WYNTER GORDON, "THE DANCE-POP BUBBLE WILL BURST"...
With the David Guettas & Afrojacks of the EDM community bringing mainstream crowds into the club with their chart-scaling dance-pop hybrids of late, there has been no shortage of artists attempting to jump on the trend and ride it into instantaneous iTunes glory.
But with everyone hopping on the dance-wagon, how long can this trend last? If you thought it was fleeting then you wouldn’t be alone as an actual member of those dancey-pop ranks Wynter Gordon has hit out at the boom saying that it likely doesn’t have legs.
“I feel like it’s kind of reaching its peak,” the US singer told inthemix. “I mean, unless everyone decides to change their format then I think the bubble will burst. They’re not doing what I would call real dance music…it’s kind of just, on the surface, party music. I feel like even in the dance scene people want something a bit deeper, something to hold onto and these songs about ‘dancing on the floor tonight, all night, all the time, tonight again’; they’re already feeling old. People are going to need to do more work to make it stick around.”
The woman has a point. And though she’s hardly the female version of Carl Craig, her recent hook-ups with producers like Axwell and Laidback Luke give Wynter Gordon a big boost of cred over the other dance-pop biters polluting the charts right now.
