TEE TIME...

It's funny how some of the greatest moments of your life are also the stupidest...

5th March will go in my memory bank as a night to remember. At the risk of sounding like a massive namedropper, I want to share a special moment.

2.30am. I’m in the DJ booth with Laidback Luke. Long story as to how I managed to have the privilege of being in this position. In honesty I had to pinch myself to remind myself I wasn’t dreaming...

So; im in the booth, having a dance off with Luke's tour manager (Tony Flexx), watching the crowd go CRAZY; and I see some guy in the crowd holding up his iPhone with the scrolling text:

OLI... YOU ARE IN THE WRONG PLACE...

I double take, and see that this guy is rockin' out next to a guy wearing a Dirty Smart t-shirt!
After BIG lols, I left the comfort of the booth, found this bloke, and rocked out with him for the next 30 mins. Front row centre obvs.

3.30am, and im back in the DJ booth, joker grin on my face, cutting shapes; and I spot the same guy. This time half naked, holding up his iPhone with the scrolling message:

OLI… WANNA SWAP T-SHIRTS?..

Next thing I know a sweaty t-shirt hits me in the face!! I oblige, whip off my tee (Dirty Smart 'Booom') and throw it at him!

Never before have I been so happy to be covered in another mans sweat, HOWEVER, wasn’t happy that his tee was a small and I rock an XL!

WOODSY LAUNCHES MINISTRY OF SOUND ‘CLUB RESIDENTS’ SERIES…

Last October, London legends Ministry of Sound picked a group of new residents for their flagship venue in Elephant & Castle. Now they’re furthering their drive to cultivate their talents and spread their reputations by launching a new Club Residents CD series, kicking off with Micahel Woods’ effort on April 25th.

The big room house producer has already performed a residency for Cream Ibiza at Amnesia, and received heavy support from Deadmau5 – featuring on his Mau5trap label and his UK tour, with remix requests for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Underworld, Martin Solveig, Estelle, P Diddy and Timbaland & Missy Elliot to boot.

The compilation is 100% his own material, with three exclusive tracks made especially for the album (Front Line, What's What and I Hate Love). Full details below.

THE MAU5 IS TOO BIG FOR A HOUSE…

Deadmau5 is ‘doing a Tiësto’ this summer by becoming the second dance music star to play a headline show in East London’s Victoria Park - his only UK festival date of 2011.

Saturday 11th June will see him play live to a huge crowd, following on from his 17,000-capacity sell-out at Earls Court last December. Expect big production and a host of top support acts to be announced over the next few weeks. It will be an all-day affair, running from 1PM – 10.45PM.

EDC FORCED OUT OF L.A…

In case you missed the last nine months of drama surrounding the (now formerly) Los Angeles based dance festival Electric Daisy Carnival, here’s a helpful re-cap of events.

After a mammoth year in 2010 with the likes of Swedish House Mafia, Laidback Luke and Above & Beyond all playing, the festival ended in disaster with a number of hospitalisations for crowd-crushed punters and the unfortunate death of an underage local girl following a drug overdose. The 2010 festival was then plunged into doubt with intense media scrutiny placed on the LA rave scene and in another dramatic twist an opportunistic Californian politician made bold moves to ban outdoor dance events altogether.

All eyes have since been on EDC promoters Insomniac for an indication on the fate of their annual festival and NBC Los Angeles is reporting that today Insomniac has announced that Electric Daisy Carnival will leave its LA home for greener pastures in Las Vegas.

The move comes after more messiness between Insomniac and EDC’s regular venue Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in recent weeks, with Coliseum boss Patrick Lynch resigned after it emerged that one of his staff was also a consultant for Insomniac making for a murky little conflict. As a result of the ongoing saga the process to nail down a contract for EDC 2011 with the venue has proved an ‘insurmountable challenge’ for Insomniac, leading to the decision to shift this year’s festival to an undisclosed location in Las Vegas, Nevada this June 24-25.

While the move will likely come at the cost of EDC’s rabid LA fanbase the good news is that at least the festival is even happening this year. Hopefully it’ll stay out of trouble this time ‘round.

FUNKED UP* TO PUT NORWICH ON THE MAP...

A city not necessarily noted for its clubbing and House music culture is about to be firmly put back on the map by local promoters Funked up*.

Putting on high-octane, high calibre parties for the best part of 5 years and dominating the Cities clubbing calender, Funked up* has gone from strength to strength, boasting a warm, energetic and uniquely underground atmosphere month in month out. It's not surprising considering such names as Seb Fontaine, Nick Bridges, Adam Sheridan, Juan Kidd & Robin S have all passed through the FU* doors in the last few years as well as a whole host of top parties being hosted locally & internationally!

Keen to stay up to date with the times, March see's them introduce their next level party in the 1500 capacity UEA concert arena with none other than international superstar Sandy Rivera flying in from the US!
