DEADMAU5 HITS OUT AGAINST SAFA HATERS...

deadmau5, South Africa Tour
In anticipation of deadmau5′s arrival in South Africa, he posted a link depicting the latest lineup announcement on his fanpage.
Unfortunately when you have a fan base of nearly 4.5 million, you can guarantee a plonker or two commenting unsavory nonsense...

Daniel Cisneros "Lol people in south Africa struggle for food but not music"
Brad Devins "touring in the deserts now.. nice hahah"
Dylan Ion "Space of AIDS."
Sage Jackson "good luck in south africa.. bring security"
Collin Thomas "Is it just me or doesn't south Africa not have any computers?"
Jesse Martinez "theres culbs in south africa? 0.o"
Matt Crane "Who's in Africa really? Out of all places in the world... you go to Africa... all Africa has is constant war and rebel groups... I dont see how electronic music fits in that"

The mau5 hit back...

"First off, allow me to apologize on behalf of some (not all) of my ignorant "fans" for their idiotic remarks. Pretty much all of the "fans" making negative remarks about South Africa haven't even left their mommys basement, let alone be privileged enough to visit South Africa. Having said that, they should be pissed off... theyre going to miss out on the party of a decade.

I dont share their narrow minded views in the very least, in fact, the extreme opposite.

This has been the most anticipated tour i have ever had the pleasure of seeing... ever since i've posted the tour announcement, i have NEVER in my 5 years of touring have EVER seen so much excitement for just 3 events. That alone is enough to put a HUGE smile on my face. I cannot fucking wait to get down there and see the sights, meet the people, and rock the venues!

Don't mind the negativity... when i leave to SA, those other idiots are staying home. :D "

What a ledge.

Laidback Luke, deadmau5 meltdown
This morning we reported the legend deadmau5 having a bit of a meltdown (http://www.dirtysmart.com/clubbingnews/deadmau5-twitter-meltdown).
It seems Joel's dismay touched a fellow Dirty Smart wearer...
None other than Laidback Luke!

Props Luke, hopefully your kind words will help the mau5 out of his hole.

MAU5 MELTDOWN...

deadmau5 twitter meltdown
Tough times at the mo for Joel Zimmerman a.k.a deadmau5.
He has just finished his most recent tour (Meowingtons Hax), he's split with Lindsey Gayle, he has no home due to a studio refurb, & it seems the pressure is getting to him...

See below a list of recent tweets...

"whats really fucked up is, i can take a little time off right now to do ANYTHING i love and enjoy, i think i forgot what that is for now”

"sorry people, you're my therapy for now, i think im legitimately depressed.”

"if you cant stand my incessant cries for help and attention, then unfuckingfollow. but im trying to cheer the fuck up. i am.”

"i blame the stress. touring, music making, trying too hard to meet everyones high expectations, making relationships work, projects, house.”

"the worst part is, this is all in my head. and i know that. and i can just stop. why cant i just stop? that's such a headfuck to me.”

"i feel like i've had the best highs in life... even too high. being happy making millions happy. and the lowest lows. nothing in between.”

DEAMAU5 LEAVES 'EM RAVING...

deadmau5, Rogers Centre, Toronto
The article below follows deadmau5 headlining the Rogers Centre Toronto, Canada.
deadmau5 was the first Canadian artist to headline the SkyDome on Saturday night.

Joel Zimmerman (deadmau5) ":D So proud to be Canadian!"

Source: www.thestar.com

"
If you’re of a certain age, it could be considered Revenge of the Ravers.

If you weren’t one of the many dance-music fans in attendance old enough to remember the City of Toronto’s turn-of-the-millennium anti-rave witch hunt, Deadmau5’s triumphant homecoming gig before more than 20,000 frothing fans at the Rogers Centre on Saturday night still stood, I’m sure, as one of the most righteous dance parties ever to hit this town.

The Niagara Falls-raised electronic producer, born Joel Zimmerman, handily beat the stadium’s brains out with the dazzling multimedia barrage of hard-as-nails big-room techno and high-tech production values he’s been carting around to transatlantic festival fields since the beginning of the summer.

The final gig of the tour, though, was a landmark moment in more ways than one. Deadmau5 became the first Canadian artist ever in the Rogers Centre’s 22-year history to headline the gargantuan venue, for one thing, putting this scrawny miscreant in an oversized “Mau5-head” mask in the same league as U2, Coldplay and the Rolling Stones. He also picked up a platinum sales award for last year’s 4x4=12 album before the gig, the only one handed out to an Anglo-Canadian performer thus far in 2011.

So, yeah, Zimmerman is having a pretty good year. But in successfully mounting what was essentially a massive rave in the city’s largest indoor concert venue — with opening support from similarly popular Toronto electro-exports Crystal Castles and MSTRKRFT — he’s also served symbolic notice that a new era of massive dance events may be upon Toronto.

And, folks, it’s been awhile; although parties drawing upwards of 10,000 people were a common sight in this burg toward the end of the 1990s, when Toronto was pretty much Ground Zero for the North American rave scene, they all but ceased to be after a municipal and police clampdown at the dawn of the 2000s. The fact that we just had one of the biggest in the scene’s history in the home of the Toronto Blue Jays marks a pretty serious about-face.

Deadmau5 even commands enough pull (and draws enough revenue) to keep the Rogers Centre open until 2 a.m., a bit early by rave standards but almost unheard of in a venue that costs tens of thousands of dollars to run each additional hour beyond its typical 11 p.m. curfew. Amazingly, too, the police and security presence was light, friendly and unobtrusive. My, how times have changed.

This gig was big news, then. It was also big fun.

Deadmau5 gets flack for offering straightforward dance floor thrills — essentially a rewiring of late ’90s hard house and Homework-era Daft Punk with a healthy dose of au courant low-end squelch and a splash of dubstep sub-bass here and there — but there’s no denying that the cat (er, Mau5) delivers the goods in the heat of the moment. His catalogue is pretty much all bangers, all the time and, admittedly, it’s tough sometimes to tell the difference between one sawing 4/4 beatdown and another, between “Ghosts ‘n’ Stuff” and “The Reward is Cheese” or between “Some Chords” and “Cthulu Sleeps.”

They were all rendered in spectacularly crisp, full and powerful sonic detail on Saturday, though — I heard rumours that an additional $100,000 had been sunk into the production because it was being taped for a DVD and I am inclined to believe it because I’ve never heard the Rogers Centre sound that good — and continually dolled up by three giant LED screens’ worth of lunatic visuals: multiple Mau5 caricatures, of course, but also cascading geometric patterns, audio-reactive animated splatters, sci-fi space battles, an enormous arcade game of Pac-Mau5 and pictures of Zimmerman’s cat, Professor Meowingtons, for whom this Meowington’s Hax tour is named.

The visual distractions are necessary when you’re a single dude standing behind a rack of gear in a space the size of the Rogers Centre, probably, but Deadmau5’s Rubik’s Cube spaceship set would be nothing if the music weren’t up to snuff. And his A-list material really is. “Raise Your Weapon” is a knowingly soft-hearted vocal-house anthem and a real keeper, even if it errs on the cheesy/trancey side. The dubstep hip-hop blinder “One Trick Pony” is probably the most punishing piece of music the Rogers Centre walls have ever withstood. The disco-fied “Animal Rights” had the place deliriously bopping with joy. Zimmerman deserved to run out on the proscenium with guest vocalist Sofia Toufa for a victory lap in front of his hometown fans during the smash single “Sofi Needs a Ladder,” meanwhile, because that tune is an absolute monster and the best thing he’s ever done.

I’m not gonna bitch at the man for making dance music popular because, really, why shouldn’t it be? Take all the victory laps you want, Deadmau5. You just pulled off a rave in freakin’ SkyDome.

DEADMAU5 - "WHATUP DETROIT!"...

Deadmau5, Fillmore, Detroit
Doing what I do, it is important I know exactly what is going on in clubland all the time. I'm not bragging, it's kind of a sad obsession.
With artists representing Dirty Smart all over the world, sometimes it is hard to keep track of everyone's movements.
Without Dirty Smart fans & friends sending me tip off's & news stories, it would not be possible.

The guys from MetroTimes in Detroit have been in touch, and sent us a review of deadmau5’s Meowingtons Hax Tour at The Fillmore, Detroit.
Props to Rockstar Pro Photography for the picture & props to deadmau5 for repping DS....
...
..
.

'The floor is shaking, right? I'm not that drunk, am I?" a girl asks from the next stall over.

We are on the third floor of the Fillmore Detroit on Friday, Oct. 21st, 2011 and the floor is, indeed, swaying perceptibly beneath us with the stomping of the crowd as well as the bass from the stage. Down below, one can almost see the sound waves flowing forth, pulsating the bodies in the crowd and causing teeth to vibrate against each other. It is the kind of bass that resonates through organ and bone, a veritable defibrillator.

I assure the girl that we are at a deadmau5 concert and not experiencing an earthquake.

Joel Zimmerman, the creator and mastermind behind deadmau5, had appeared onstage moments earlier behind a translucent curtain. Backlit by a purple glow, his trademark mouse-head helmet and shining white eyes float eerily in rhythm with electronic chords atop a shimmering, fragmented Rubik's cube. The volume intensified, the notes held longer, and the crowd screamed its devotion. It felt as if we had been suspended in time when the beat finally dropped. Everyone's bodies broke against each other like water poured from high above, finally crashing into something solid. The crowd moved and undulated; hands waved through the air in deadmau5's direction. It was the kind of dance that is appropriated only for this kind of music, a series of half-collapses, stomps, and hand gestures that are meant to indicate approval and pay tribute to the artist on stage.

"It's all about the light show," someone screams into my ear. "That's what it is. You'll die. You're going to die."

Strobe light seizure warnings aside, this person was right. The music is hypnotizing and registers deep, but we are not simply watching a DJ on stage. We are in the midst of what might be a religious experience, lights and visions flashing before our eyes as our bodies move together. Shafts of purple and yellow light pierce the dust and haze like arms reaching for the back of the theatre.

Ten years ago, a production of this technical sophistication, along with a sold-out house, would not have been typical of electronic music. Usually these things are relegated to pop music acts, with their far-reaching appeal and endless budget. Electronic music, meanwhile, spent years growing in basements, clubs and small venues, and has finally begun to proliferate, a point proven by the radio hits laid unassumingly over house beats. deadmau5 may arguably be the golden boy of his genre, with international success and his current tour, Meowingtons Hax, selling out shows virtually everywhere he goes (he recently did six consecutive nights at the Roseland Ballroom in New York).

Outside, people are breathless and wide-eyed. They have just caught a glimpse of Sofi leaving the tour bus. She walks briskly through a side door, and only those on the periphery take notice; she is one understatedly stylish woman amongst many. But a while later, she struts onto the stage in a silver and black leotard, commanding the audience's affection and attention during "Sofi Needs a Ladder" and "One Trick Pony". deadmau5 even descends the cube and busts a few moves alongside her.

Cries of ecstasy erupt when the crowd recognizes the first few notes of "Ghosts 'n' Stuff." There is an enormous push toward the stage, and even though it is close to 1 a.m., people explode with more energy than they had all night.

After the final note dies at the end of the night and the lights go up, we are all blinking away remnants of flashing strobes from behind our eyelids. I still feel the pulse of the music inside my ears as I walk toward my car, and on the way home, it's as if the deadmau5 eyes glow knowingly in the form of each pair of passing headlights...

GLOWFEST CANCELLED, DEADMAU5 STILL PLAYS...

deadmau5, GLOWfest, 19.10.11
Just hours before 'curtains up', the GLOWfest Twitter page announced that the show (19.10.11) headlining deadmau5 had been cancelled due to "inclement weather."

Here is a report by IDS News of the insanity that followed this tweet....
...
..
.

deadmau5 threw his cigarette on the floor of the Bluebird Nightclub’s back room and stomped on it.
He took another swig of Red Bull...

"Why the fuck would you have an outside show in October?" deadmau5 asked rhetorically.

GLOWfest had been cancelled. About 5,400 ticket holders were furious, Twitter was blowing up and more than 1,500 people were lined up around Walnut and Sixth streets in the freezing rain.

GLOWfest was a contracted "rain or shine" event. However, with nearly a million dollars of stage equipment at risk, the plug was pulled, leaving a mere two hours to come up with a plan B...

GLOWfest was out, and a new event was in formation...

"We had these four artists in this small town, and we had to come up with something quick," Kate Swanson (GLOWfest Publicist and IU junior) said. "We considered a lot, but it had to be fast. The Bluebird was open, so that’s what we did."

Bluebird worker Molly Carroll said she got the text at about 8 p.m. saying the club needed everyone to come in immediately. Doors were set to open at 9 p.m., and they planned to instantly reach maximum capacity.

"People were stressed," Carroll said. "Everything was taken out of the freezers, and we cut as much fruit as we could, and then the doors opened."

A security guard was placed at Carroll's side while people crowded the Bluebird tubs for beer. But when opener Le Castle Vania took stage, there were bigger issues for security to handle.

"People were hanging from the rafters, crowd surfing and those who had a few too many were having to be carried out," Carroll said.

It was hard to tell the difference between rain-soaked, sweat-soaked and spilled-drink-alcohol-soaked as the crowd was so closely tangled. Fans wetness was a mix of all three, brought together by the sounds of neo-trance dubstep. Le Castle Vania's remix of La Roux's "In for the Kill" was met with screams of approval, taking the atmosphere to an even higher level.

"Le Castle Vania just hit the decks," deadmau5 tweeted soon after the opener took stage; "Insanity ensues."

Seniors Katherine Bihrle and Samantha Skjodt were among 10 people dancing on a bench to the side of the stage when it flipped, throwing them to the floor in a twisted heap of bodies, neon, spandex and glow sticks.

Bihrle said no one was hurt, and everyone simply got back up and started dancing again.

"No one was still," Bihrle said. "It was one of the smallest venues he's been at for, like, seven years, but that just made everything so personal."

Feed Me took the stage, creating a different tone as they welcomed the crowd in an English accent to a taste of house and what some call "intelligent dance" music. Toward the end of Feed Me's performance, Joel Zimmerman walked on to continue revealling his identity to the crowd by placing on his mau5head.

People went crazy.

deadmau5's "Raise Your Weapon", among other fan favorites, escalated the commotion.

"The show was so close to the audience," Skjodt said. "He had to have felt the energy of the crowd, and I know it was something he hasn't felt in awhile."

After the show, deadmau5 tweeted to Bloomington "oh geez... not going to lie, but i need more shows like that in my life... worst sound ever, worse setup ever, BEST CROWD OF ALL TIME. how fucking amazing was that. TOTALLY made up for BLOWfest!!! Im motivated to come back, many times"

GLOWfest / BLOWfest has yet to officially announce if there will be compensation for ticket holders that were unable to enter the Bluebird.

DEADMAU5, "GOT MY ASS KICKED BY A BUNCH OF FUCKING PLANTS"...

deadmau5, wall of fame
There will be no Joel Zimmerman going on the Niagara Falls Arts & Culture Wall of Fame this year, and city councillor Janice Wing wants to know why.

In a tersely-worded e-mail to council, Wing says she was "outraged" to learn the multi-Juno Winner, known to millions of fans as deadmau5, could be overlooked for the Wall of Fame not once, but twice.

Zimmerman's grandfather Don Johnson submitted his name for consideration this year, as did Zimmerman's mother Nancy previously. Both times, Zimmerman was bypassed, despite massive worldwide success.

Wing is questioning whether the process to get on the Wall of Fame is "fair and unbiased," and wants to know how the Arts & Culture Committee came to their decision.

"It's a sham," she says. "There's a problem with the process."

"He and James Cameron are arguably the two most famous artists to ever come out of Niagara Falls … I just don't see how they can bypass him."

Zimmerman, 30, has had another huge year, solidifying his place as one of the world's top electro/progressive artists. The former Westlane student won his fourth straight Juno award for Dance Recording of the Year, and on Nov. 5 he'll headline the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Wing wants to know – what more does Deadmau5 have to do?

"If this isn't bias, I don't know what it is," she says. "Other than sheer ignorance, perhaps."

Niagara Falls producer/artist Brad Pine also thinks something is amiss. He credits Zimmerman as a huge influence, and can't believe his home town still hasn't formally recognized him. In light of the Wall of Fame snub, he's pushing city council to declare a Deadmau5 Day in Niagara Falls.

"I was personally going to nominate Joel (for the Wall of Fame) this year myself," he says. "I didn't bother because I felt he was gonna get the nod so easily. When I think of Niagara Falls, I think of James Cameron and Joel Zimmerman/Deadmau5."

"I definitely suspect there is some type of bias going on," he adds. "If the A&C Committee doesn't know how huge Deadmau5 is, then they are far more dead in the head than any deceased mouse I've ever come across."

Arts and Culture Committee chairwoman Karen Fraser is taken aback by the criticism, and is dismayed Wing took her complaints public instead of phoning her. It's not policy for the committee to discuss who (and who doesn't) get inducted before city council approves the list.

She resents accusations of "bias" against either Zimmerman or his mother, a former Arts and Culture Committee member.

"Absolutely not," she says. "We don't play that game."

This year's inductees are Diana Coatsworth, Honeymoon Suite, Bob McAdorey, Brian Smylski, Frank Shuster and the landscape architecture of Oakes Garden Theatre.

Fraser says the nominating committee uses a confidential "point system" when evaluating submissions. Categories include outstanding achievement, how long they resided in Niagara Falls, and impact on the community.

Zimmerman started his career in Niagara Falls but currently lives in Toronto.

This isn't the first time a name has been conspicuous by its absence on the Wall of Fame. It wasn't until last year that director James Cameron was inducted, though Fraser insists the delay was because no one had put his name forth until then. Once approved, the nominee or their surviving family must give permission to be inducted, which wasn't easy for a director as busy as Cameron.

Fraser laughs off suggestions the eight-member Arts and Culture Committee simply doesn't know who deadmau5 is.

"We all know who he is," she says. "The committee itself is varied in its make-up – different kinds of artists, different age groups, different worlds are all at the table. No, he's very well-known and we're all very aware of him.”

(source: The Forterie Times)

Joel comments: "This year's inductees are .... the landscape architecture of Oakes Garden Theatre. the landscape architecture of Oakes Garden Theatre????? damn... got my ass kicked by a bunch of fucking plants? dude, this is killin me over here.

DEADMAU5 WORKING WITH PARIS HILTON... NAAAT...

deadmau5, Paris Hilton
This week we blogged about an unlikely but real rendezvous of the incred deadmau5 & Paris Hilton.

As they do, the World’s media has taken Paris Hilton chatting to deadmau5 and interpreted it as the brilliant DJ sharing his wealth of knowledge and skills with the infamous heiress to the Hilton fortune. deadmau5 quickly replied stating,

"

HEY WORLD... im not teaching Paris Hilton how to DJ. fuck already! she showed up to a show, and shit, ill be friendly to just about anyone who isnt a fuckin asshole. and she was respectful and polite, and all around nice to chat with, so i let her be a ghost... how the fuck does it end up all "im producing her next album" or "teaching her to be a DJ" if she wants to do whatever she wants, let er! i dont give a fuck... but why am i involved all of a sudden?

"

So there you have it... Rumour quelled straight from the mau5's mouth...

PARIS HILTON ON STAGE WITH DEADMAU5...

There’s been a lot of action in Vegas this Labor Day weekend, and it appears to have started rather oddly...

Paris Hilton joined deadmau5 on stage during his show at 'The Chelsea' at 'The Cosmopolitan', Las Vegas; appearing from underneath a bed sheet during deadmau5's iconic 'Ghosts N Stuff'.

Following the appearance, Paris tweeted: “Was so much fun and such an honor to be asked to go on stage and be his ghost in the show tonight. Love DeadMau5!!” Later adding: “So epic! Amazing night!”

Are the two working on new material? I highly doubt it.

Paris told reporters: “I have a recording studio in my house so any time I have free time I’m writing and working on new music. I’ve been working on this album for a really long time because I want it to be perfect. I recently changed the direction of the album. It was more pop before but now I’m getting rid of a lot of songs and going into a different direction with house music, so it will be a lot more dance and club.”
The model/singer/reality star has already confirmed she is working with Grammy Award winning Dutch music producer Afrojack...

In 2006 Paris released her debut album, 'Paris'.
'Paris' was considered a HUGE commercial failure...
Maybe best to stay under / between bed sheets, and stop trying to become a musician...

The picture above features Paris, celebrity tattooist Mario Barth, deadmau5 & deadmau5's girlfriend prior to the performance @ Ink Icon.

DEADMAU5 LAUNCHES NEW LIVE SHOW...

deadmau5, new live show, Lollapalooza
On Sunday night at Grant Park in Chicago, deadmau5 raised the curtain on his all-new live show. The occasion was a headline slot at Lollapalooza 2011, closing one of the mainstages, while Foo Fighters took care of the other. In terms of triumphant festival appearances for a dance music act, it’s certainly up there. It should come as no surprise, then, that the tireless tech-geek has been working around the clock to come up with something that’ll top the ‘Rubik’s Cube’ he retired at 'T In The Park' last month..

“We’re all freaking out. It’s awesome,” the mau5 otherwise known as Joel Zimmerman told Time Out Chicago last week. “Right now we’re working on the actual technology to control all the cool stuff. Otherwise it’s just going to be a lot of expensive stuff up on a stage and everyone’s going to go, ‘Woo… But what does it do?’ But we’re working on it and I think we’ll figure it out. My career depends on it.”

The other big news for deadmau5’s rabid fans is the announcement of the winner of Joel's ‘design the next deadmau5 head’ competition. Unfortunately Dirty Smart's entry didn't make the cut, however MAD props to the winner.
You can check out the winning entry HERE, or just wait to see it on his head at some later date...

DEADMAU5 INTERVIEW...

deadmau5 Interview
Dance music’s biggest star deadmau5 takes off the mask for an exclusive chat with 'Time Out Chicago' before his Lollapalooza show...

“How much does your head weigh?” asks Joel Zimmerman, mockingly throwing me the question he gets asked all too often. It’s the end of our conversation and he’s done talking about himself. When Zimmerman dons his much-talked-about mau5head, as he will for thousands of screaming ravers at Lollapalooza on Sunday 7, he transforms into deadmau5, the biggest dance act since Dutch trance megastar Tiësto. Without the cartoonish rodent head, the tatted-up, nail-biting chain smoker looks more like the computer programmer he once was rather than the club-music rock star he is now. The 30-year-old is a frantic ball of energy when I reach him by phone in his Toronto studio. He’s knee-deep in all the gadgetry that will become the laser-light show at Lolla.

On the new live show
“Can you tell us about it?” I ask. “No,” he deadpans, followed by his Beavis-like rapid-fire chuckle. With a little prodding he opens up: “We’re all freaking out. It’s awesome…. Right now we’re working on the actual technology to control all the cool stuff. Otherwise it’s just going to be a lot of expensive stuff up on a stage and everyone’s going to go, ‘Woo… But what does it do?’ And, we’ll go, ‘Well nothing, because we can’t get this fucking thing to work.’ But we’re working on it and I think we’ll figure it out. My career depends on it.”

On being a gearhead
It becomes apparent that the techno toys trump the techno itself. Has he been a dance-music fan since an early age? No. “I’ve been converted. I grew up a little metalhead: Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, that kind of shit. I was a bandwagon jumper. If everybody in high school listened to it, so did I.” More so than the classic rave-informed tech-electro he makes, it’s the futuristic spectacle of the performance—and the requisite gear—that fuels Zimmerman. “I’m just a little artsy-fartsy computer dude,” Zimmerman says. “It’s not an alter ego. It’s not, Now it’s time for crazy time, put on a mouse head—adventure! I’m the same guy in and out of it.”

On the evolution of the mau5head
“Oh, wow, if I had a nickel for every time I had to tell this fucking story,” Zimmerman mumbles. His most recognizable attribute, the mau5head, has seen seemingly endless permutations: red with bugged-out white eyes, solid black with a glowing mouth, chrome. Most recently it’s become a glorified LED screen with pixelated lights for its eyes and mouth. “It was a 3-D model years and years before it was anything else,” he explains. Then a friend convinced him to turn it into a mask. “I wore it out for my first official deadmau5 gig, and everyone was looking at me like, What the fuck? It was a combination of that, the big brand identity, and the music, that pushed it all forward. It was so tongue-in-cheek, it’s like, No fucking prisoners. Fuck it, if I do this, I do this. If I fail, I’ll go 3-D model my head off till I’m old and gray and still sitting behind a desk. I’m happy either way. Now I can’t take the fucking thing off.”

On the Disney rumors
In May, spoof conspiracy-theory blog tropiganda.com ran a story claiming Disney bought the trademark to deadmau5. “Dude, that is such bullshit,” Zimmerman bellows. “Disney fell asleep at the fucking wheel when I trademarked my shit. I have a thing with a big grin and mouse ears. If you blacked it out, everybody would be like, Oh, Mickey. Someone over at Disney was taking a nap.” The only interaction deadmau5 has actually had with Mickey was a gig in Orlando at Disney World. “I’m thinking that I’m gonna go into the dressing room and the door is gonna slam shut and Goofy and fucking Minnie are gonna come out and I’m going to get a beat down.” He came home bruise-free.

On the fame and fortune
Does it still surprise him? “No, I knew it was going to happen when I was five,” Zimmerman says, dripping with sarcasm. “I’m kidding…. It was a total fucking shock, are you kidding me?” His fans adore him, often sending him their own renditions of the mau5head. As an example, he shares a story from last Christmas. “My mother goes on the Internet and downloads pictures of people with all their mau5heads and she made this massive, fuck-off poster of hundreds of thousands of mice—all different ones. Not a single one is the same. I love that about my image. How many fucking Tiësto fans go to a Tiësto concert with a photo of Tiësto for a mask?”

DEADMAU5, "I DO SPORT THE DIRTYSMART! LOVE THE T'S"...

deadmau5 contacts Dirty Smart
Before I tell you how excited I was by the twitter convo featured in the picture above, you need a bit of background knol...

A 'DDoS attack' is an attempt to make a resource unavailable to its intended users. One common method of attack, involves saturating a target with external communications requests, such that it cannot respond to the traffic.

deadmau5 is renowned for unintentional DDoS attacks. He has such a loyal hoarde of followers, as soon as he tweets a URL, the mentioned website crashes due to traffic.

Today i spotted a deadmau5 tweet:

‘ http://www.djmag.com/top100 LOL WHAT!!!???? voting fail = step one, open facebook, step 2, allow your personal FB... ’

I went to check out http://www.djmag.com/top100 and sure enough, the site had crashed!

I looked across the table and saw Dirty Smart's webmaster -Shaolin- arseing around, so cheekily tweeted...

' @deadmau5 fancy crashing our website? love www.dirtysmart.com x '

I wasn't expecting a reply... but one came a couple of minutes later!

' @dirtysmart nah, it does more harm than good... but! i do sport the dirtysmart! love the t's (nick gave me a few more in ibiza, love em) '

Is there an emotion that combines being speechless, shocked & elated?..
x

EXCISION, TOMMY LEE & DJ AERO ADDED TO DEADMAU5’S MEOWINGTONS HAX TOUR...

deadmau5, meowingtons hax tour
deadmau5 has announced Excision and Tommy Lee & DJ Aero will join his Meowingtons Hax tour. The tour runs deep into the fall where these artists will travel with him to major amphitheatres and venues throughout the U.S. and Canada including shows at Denver’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, the Phoenix Convention Center, Houston’s Verizon Wireless Theatre and many more. The complete routing follows below and tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com

Hailing from Kelowna, British Columbia, Excision has time and time again tested the limits of electronic music with vastly different sets that encompass a full range of genres. The shows are like no other –a virtual apocalypse of twisting and morphing sounds turn massive crowds into a frenzy, as virtual walls of bass are relentlessly impaled time and time again up their fragile bodies and ears. This is Excision – in name and in sound. Find out more about Excision online at Excision.ca, on Facebook at Facebook.com/Excision and on Twitter @Excision.
As DJs and producers, Tommy Lee & DJ Aero’s sound is dirty, filthy, nasty electro-house; and since their musical tastes are not constrained to one genre, the duo often veers into techno, progressive, breakbeat and even hip-hop territory. Tommy Lee & DJ Aero are essentially remixing music live, on-the-fly, when performing as DJs. They’re also creating, manipulating and incorporating visuals into their live DJ sets. This is deejaying as a multi-media show bordering on performance art. It’s what Tommy Lee & DJ Aero are about. More about Tommy Lee & DJ Aero can be found online at tommylee.com, on Facebook at Facebook.com/tommyleetv and on Twitter @MrTommyLand.
