'FESTIVAL OF IBIZA', HITS GATECRASHER...

After a storming season last year, The Festival Of Ibiza lands back in Birmingham for another 12 nights of Summer, flying in the biggest DJs, brands and entertainment from the party Capital Of The World Ibiza. The opening fiesta on the 30th July marks the beginning of Gatecrasher’s Ibiza season. The stage is set for the wildest party on earth – People get Ready!

Clubbers can expect grand-scale themed stories, stunning stage shows and some of the biggest names in dance. Gatecrasher Birmingham brings forth 12 weeks of sheer hedonism with a cast of over 50 dancers, incredible acrobats and riotous entertainers flying in exclusively from the Ibiza every Saturday. Pure exhibitionism is unleashed every week. Expect full-on excitement, mind-bending decadence, freedom of self-expression and sheer fabulousness!

A place for the fabulous or trashy, beautiful or scary, glamorous or freaky – ‘Festival of Ibiza’ will be the celebration of club culture inspired by the full on hedonism of Ibiza’s top club. The nights will promote a spirit of liberty and harmony between all people, A surreality without rules! Trannies with Attitude and outrageous entertainment guaranteed!

Think pure theatricality of Manumission meets the hyperactivity of La Troya. The night will be a celebration of glitter, glamour and dressing up. Clubbers can expect grand-scale themed stories, stunning stage shows and some of the biggest Ibiza performers.

Since Gatecrasher Birmingham launched the club devised in Ibiza, has exceeded all expectations and become renowned world-wide. GATECRASHER today announced its massive Ibiza line-up with a summer-long festival of epic proportions. Gatecrasher takes over Wednesday nights in August at the world’s largest nightclub PRIVILEGE with a selection of electronic music's most exciting global pioneers PAUL OAKENFOLD,DASH BERLIN, ROGER SHAH and MARCO V as weekly residents from the 3rd to the 31st of August 2011.

After thrilling clubland for 18years with legendary events, award winning albums and dancefloor domination Gatecrasher really have something to celebrate and this time they are doing it in style! Expect memorising visuals awe-Inspiring light and laser shows, state of the art sound, world class dancers and entertainment and combine it with the best dance music all night long.

The explosive birth of a new era of has arrived..... Gatecrasher will push the club experience to a new limit creating an electrifying fantasy playground . This never-to-forgotten season will showcase a world class line-up of musical pioneers and Gatecrasher has unveiled a stellar line up electronic brilliance including the king of dance PAUL OAKENFOLD, rising star DASH BERLIN, Balearic beat legend ROGER SHAH and Dutch Master MARCO V who all become weekly residents for the season.

PAUL OAKENFOLD
Following a hugely successful Vegas residency, The King of Dance Paul Oakenfold is back in Ibiza! Gatecrasher will be transporting the full Vegas experience including circus performers, cutting edge visuals and special effects to Ibiza. Oakie’s relationship with Gatecrasher spans over 15 years, including headlining Summer Soundsystem, NEC events and many special club nights. Many people will have fabulous memories of Paul’s ascendancy at Gatecrasher where he attacked the limelight and powered onwards to gather a massive following. Despite a full US and Canada tour this year, Oakenfold has surprisingly still found time to remix Michael Jackson classic Dancing Machine, become a Berklee UK Scholarship Honoree, Sell out two nights at the Hollywood Bowl (30,000 punters in total) AND open up for Madonna on all of her Sticky & Sweet UK and European dates. New artist album Pop Killer to be released this year featuring The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Gnarls Barkley and OneRepublic serves as a reminder that Oakenfold is still at the top of his game.

MARCO
Joining Oakenfold is fellow superstar DJ and Trance legend – Marco V, one of the most inventive, diverse and creative electronic music minds today. Through his very first releases he became the architect of tech-trance; a sound that went on to become a fully-fledged electronic music phenomena. Continually modifying and fine-tuning his style ever since, he has gone on to create numerous leading-edge dance classics - ‘Godd’, ‘Indicator’, ‘Echnalava’, ‘More Than A Life Away’ & ‘Coma Aid’ numbered among them. Behind the decks he has smashed nights in all the world’s farthest corners, played a near uncountable number of tent-pole events for the scene’s flagship club & festival brands. As a result of which he has spent the last 7 consecutive years inside the ranks of DJ Magazine’s Top 50. Into 2011 and Marco continues to innovate and push at the boundary edges including the launch of T.A.O. The Art Of) - his new multimedia concept. The “T.A.O. Sound” will cause a blistering heat on its debut Gatecrasher event with a DJ set full of Marco’s latest floorbombs and old-time favourite party tracks supported with an impressive light and video show!!

ROGER SHAH
Joining the duo will also be top DJ Roger Shah, clad in his trademark white, he is impossible to miss or mistake. Shah comes to the UK fresh from his success at Gatecrasher’s Global SoundSytem in Indonisia. Everyone knows Roger Shah. If not for his Balearic Trance music, then for his huge club hits like “Going Wrong” with Armin van Buuren and Chris Jones. On stage, clad in his trademark white, he is impossible to miss or mistake. Wireless keyboard in one hand, an ever-ready clutch of his own productions in the other, his live crowd-interactive performances have brought a new apex experience for club and festival goers worldwide. In 2010 this unequalled approach was reflected in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 chart, where he moved up from his ‘08 debut position of no.58 to no.34. As a music producer he’s scaled the heights of national charts and with 5 artist albums & compilations released in the last 2 years alone, he is very possibly the most prolific trance musician working today.



DASH BERLIN
Dash Berlin has repeatedly been called ‘the fastest rising artist in Dance Music ’ and deservedly so according to his ever-growing global fan base and the acclaimed IDMA’s who recently nominated the ‘Flying Dutchman’ as ‘Best European DJ’ among some of the biggest names in dance music. After the international success of his first official mix compilation Dash decided to institutionalize his ‘United Destination’ brand as an annual concept. And the all-new ‘United Destination 2011’ certainly makes a convincing case for Dash Berlin, not only as a successful dance artist, but also as a truly skilled DJ, that keeps delivering beyond the hype that surrounds his energetic persona.

ARMAND VAN HELDEN INTERVIEW...

Gatecrasher Birmingham catch up with Armand Van Helden before his Bank Holiday event on 29th May

What do you think of the UK club scene?

The UK scene has always been the healthiest in the world, with Australia probably number two. Everything I do is led by what happens in the UK, the movement and progression of the scene is one of the healthiest in the world.

Where is your favourite place to play in the world?

I love playing in the UK, it is just that the weather is depressing. I mean I live in New York, it’s not that much better! So in that respect I like to play in Australia, for a large part of the year you get mild, decent weather, so Australia might win overall. It’s got a pretty vibrant club and festival scene but also has the beaches and the weather. I love New York and the UK but I can’t really say they have brilliant weather.

Last time you played at Gatecrasher was in Sheffield in 2005, what can clubbers expect from your set time around?

I like to come in and bang it......... I try to take clubbers to a few places they’ve never been before and keep my sets full of as much variation as possible but always with the understanding that at the end of the day, it’s a party and that’s what people are there to do.

Barbra Streisand was the biggest club track of 2010 for Duck Sauce, what can we expect from you this year?

I don’t know, me and A-Track have finished an albums worth of material so hopefully one of the tracks has something. But all the tracks are weird, ‘cause Barbra Streisand was so weird. The main idea is to make people feel good, a bit of irreverence, a bit of fun. So really it is not predictable it’s almost powered totally by goodwill. It’s really going to be people who decide the next track. Barbra Streisand grew organically and I think it will be the same again.

Did you expect Barbra Streisand to be such a huge chart and club success?

No, I don’t think so. I don’t think anyone hearing it on first listen would have predicted the success. I mean they’d be like be like, what is this, is this joke? I mean it was like comedy, so who knew that it’d be a success? I really never could have predicted that.

I heard on the grapevine that you were toying with another celebrity name as the hook?

We did try out a few other names but there weren’t too many. Neil Diamond was a contender but just didn’t sound as good as Barbra Streisand.

What were the criteria? Why did you choose Barbra Streisand?

A Track and I have a brainstorm, or maybe a brain-quirk. He spits out ideas and I spit out ideas, we throw them up against the wall and see what works. We usually end up laughing, that’s kinda how it worked for Barbra Streisand. We both have wacky senses of humour and we're drawn to these things that make people sit up and listen.

So we had the track with-out that part and realised we needed to add a something into where the gap was. The first idea was to put some sort of word there, some sort of silly sample. Then, instead of looking for a sample, we decided we should just say something, we should say someone's name. Then I had a moment when I thought , we gotta say someone's name, someone in music, who has nothing to do with this.. After 3 or 4 shots we tried Barbra Streisand and both just started cracking up so we knew then, that would have to be on the track.

Are you aware of the gobarbra.com site where you can customise your own Barbra Streisand track?

Yes I am aware of it, I played on it for hours when I was first shown it, it’s very funny!

We read you have an album planned for 2011?

Yep, there will be a new Duck Sauce album and a new Armand single out before summer.

You’ve worked with the world’s biggest stars who has been your favourite collaboration?

Working with Dizzee Rascal on ‘Bonkers’ was amazing, I’d love to work with Dizzee again.

The thing that has been somewhat recurrent in my career, is that all of my songs that have been number one or crossed over to pop were unintentional, ‘You don’t know me’ was a quirk and ‘Bonkers’ was a quirk.

You’ve remixed for the top artists in the world from Rolling Stones to Puff Daddy, if could work with any artist dead or alive who would it be and why?

Steely Dan for their prolific songwriting and Michael McDonald because of his amazingly distinctive and soulful voice.
