R.I.P DJ MEHDI...
Tributes are pouring in for French producer and Ed Banger mainstay DJ Mehdi who passed away yesterday (September 13th).
Coming of age in the French hip hop scene, DJ Mehdi became a central part of the Ed Banger collective. Releasing his debut album 'Lucky Boy' through the label, the producer found his sound by injecting a hip hop attitude into electro house.
Completing numerous collaborations, DJ Mehdi was highly thought of throughout the world of electronic music. News of his death broke yesterday (September 13th) after Parisian nightspot the Social Club released a statement.
Friends and collaborators paid their respects, while Ed Banger released a very simple statement to mourn their colleague:
"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our friend DJ Mehdi. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones."
Amongst the first to pay their respects were Canadian duo Chromeo, who said: “We lost our brother. No words.”
The tragic incident has moved far beyond the world of French electro, indicating the near universal respect afford to DJ Mehdi.
Annie Mac tweeted "I'm speechless for the loss of DJ Mehdi. Sending all my love to his beautiful family and to Pedro Winter and Ed Banger Records in Paris. X"
DJ Mehdi was married to the French graffiti artist Fafi. Award winning producer Paul Epworth added: “V sad to hear about DJ Mehdi. What a shit day.”
The Bloody Beetroots tweeted: "R.I.P. Dj MEHDI. The void he has left behind is unbearable. Love you, Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo."
Steve Aoki tweeted: "Rest in peace to my brother forever here and in the after life djmehdi. i love u and miss u."
Dubstep pioneer Skream recently shared a bill with DJ Mehdi, “RIP Dj Medhi…Cant believe I was with you Saturday.“
DJ Mehdi recently played a set in London's KOKO venue, while also appearing at Bestival with Riton under the Carte Blanche guise. It is reported that Mehdi suffered fatal injuries after the roof of his Paris home gave way, (France Soir newspaper).
RIP DJ Mehdi. An innovator of sound. So sad..
